I have been practising Corporate and Commercial Law for the last five years. I thought studying a masters would give my career a new opportunity to increase my knowledge and experience. I wanted to expand my network and research topics I´m interested in.
I wanted to study at a great university. I chose the University of Auckland because of the classes that were offered.
I’m a Spanish native speaker. By coming to this university, I challenged my English skills. It helped to improve my communication and research skills.
I think studying this programme is a great decision. You will meet many lawyers from around the world and get the opportunity to exchange knowledge and opinions. Auckland is a great place to study and to live.
During my undergraduate degree, I was so inspired by a lecture from Professor Cather Simpson that I applied for a summer scholarship project with her at the Photon Factory. The experiences I had that summer were mind-blowing – I observed how the perseverance of scientists can lead to successful experimental results, I got to work with a group of very smart researchers, and I got to build and use state-of-the-art lasers!
I have now taken a job in the technical industry in New Zealand, where I’m aiming to bring my skills and knowledge to the business world, to make scientific research have more impact in our lives.
A key factor in my decision to apply for the dual masters programme was that the University of Auckland is the best university in New Zealand and is a leading research institution. Some of my professors here are world-renowned researchers in their field. With this programme, I get two masters degrees when I graduate, making me more employable and giving me an edge when it comes to my PhD.
My experience in New Zealand not only enriched my research, but also gave me a competitive edge compared to other students in China. My advice to future students would be go get it. Be brave and never stop. The University of Auckland is a good choice for your future and you will not regret it!
The University of Auckland ranks in the top 100 universities in the world and is far away from Dominica, which offered a diversity of perception and way of life. New Zealand has been exposed to similar disaster risks that my country faces, but has been recognised for its research-informed disaster management policies. I thought the University would be the best place for me to prepare for a role influencing policy relating to disaster risk reduction and community resilience.
I benefited significantly from the New Zealand Scholarship I received and was well looked after by the folks at the International Office. Even when I went through one of the toughest times in my life, losing my dad while being across the world, the scholarship allowed me to return home and the student support team made the necessary arrangements so I could complete my studies.
The main benefit I gained from studying at the University of Auckland was the amazing network of fellow New Zealand Scholars. We stay connected and share knowledge and ideas, which speaks to the global community we live in. My experience at the University of Auckland was life changing for me.
