DE International is the international unit of the NSW Department of Education. We manage international programs for all overseas students and temporary residents enrolling in a NSW government school, as well as study tours programs for groups to visit our schools and department facilities. We register and monitor student exchange organisations and host overseas government delegations.

Students may apply to complete their secondary education in a NSW government school. Students who successfully complete their studies in Year 12 are awarded a Higher School Certificate (HSC) and an Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR).
This program offers a wonderful opportunity for high school students to study in a NSW government school, stay with a family in a ‘homestay’ and experience a unique Australian lifestyle. You can choose a school in a coastal, rural or urban setting and study from 3 months to 1 year. You can choose from schools located throughout NSW, including Sydney and regional centres.
Our study tours program offers groups of overseas students and adults a unique educational experience that includes visiting schools, participating in classes, school activities and special events conducted in the school or local community. Face-to-face, virtual, and hybrid tour options are available and each tour can be tailored to the interests and needs of each group.

Gustavo started his studies in NSW at Marsden IEC, before moving on to Marsden High School, where he was elected to the role of School Captain. He was the winner of the 2020 NSW Government Schools International Student Leadership Award.
Minori came to NSW with her family and studied at Central Sydney Intensive English High School, where she enjoyed learning about different countries and cultures from her classmates, while improving her English language skills.
Ruby completed her HSC at Bonnyrigg High School, where she achieved an ATAR of 99.85. She won the 2022 NSW Government Schools International Student Academic Achievement Award. Ruby is now studying a Doctor of Medicine at Western Sydney University.
