I have full confidence having been a student at Deakin and seeing the students that come through Hawthorne Football Club is that they understand firstly the theoretical basis of physiology, nutrition. But also they know how to use certain types of equipment machines within the gym because they've done it before and they've practiced it and practiced it and practiced it. The facilities have been really good, you know. We've got a great gym here and all the laboratories are really good.
"I was part of several multidisciplinary research teams in my young career as a civil engineer and scientist. However, I felt that it was necessary to know and experiment with new ideas put in practice in places where innovation is the way of thinking. So, I decided to undertake my PhD project in Regional Sustainable Development at Deakin University, looking for a new direction towards renovated concepts like sustainability, resilience and multifunctionality. I knew this was only possible in a multidisciplinary environment of excellence."
"I feel very lucky to have landed at Deakin. During my placements I worked for organisations that were very different and gave me a variety of experience.
Throughout this journey, I got to work on a variety of interesting projects, was engaging with key stakeholders and clients on a regular basis, and was required to apply my learning from the course to continuously develop my skills as an organisational psychologist. I was offered jobs from two of the three placements organisations I worked for, and feel this speaks volumes of the reputation that a Deakin education has in the job market."
"At Deakin I get the chance to tailor my course to suit my needs and – why not – my likes. Thus, I get to learn from physiology to microbiology, and from the basis of immunity to the intricacies of the human mind, a mixture I love very much, as it helps me understand the human body and mind in a holistic way, because that is what Deakin is really all about: holism. Many organisations out there have words such as holism and holistic in their mission statements, but I know of just a few that truly live up to those words, and Deakin is one of them. Here, academic studies are combined with real-world experience and an endless list of social events and opportunities to enjoy your time at uni, a perfect recipe involving actual care for students’ needs, first-class teaching and a joyful and flexible environment where you can be who you truly are, safely"
